- What is redwood Viscometer?
The Redwood viscometer is an instrument used to measure the viscosity of a liquid. There are two types of Redwood viscometers: Redwood No. 1 and Redwood No. 2, each designed for different viscosity ranges.

The Redwood viscometer No. 1 is used for determining the oils having redwood viscosity up to 2000 secs. More than 2000 sec viscosity oil will be tested in Redwood viscometer No. 2.
- Purpose of the Redwood Viscometer ?

- Viscosity Range: Typically used for liquids with kinematic viscosities in the range of 1 to 2000 Redwood seconds (RS).
- Operation: The instrument consists of an oil cup, a heating bath, and a standardized orifice at the bottom. The oil cup is filled with the test fluid, which is then allowed to flow through the orifice. The time it takes for a specified volume of the liquid to pass through the orifice is measured.
- Units: The viscosity is expressed in Redwood seconds, which is the time in seconds for 50 mL of liquid to flow out through the orifice.

- Preparation: Ensure the viscometer is clean and free from any residues.
- Filling: Fill the oil cup with the sample liquid up to the specified level.
- Temperature Control: If the test requires a specific temperature, use the heating bath to maintain the required temperature of the sample.
- Flow Measurement: Open the orifice and start the timer simultaneously. Measure the time taken for 50 mL of the liquid to flow out.
- Calculation: The time recorded is the kinematic viscosity of the liquid expressed in Redwood seconds.
